In an age where hardparking is considered a form of motorsport, it’s becoming harder to find events that include the most mint of OEM and modified machinery while remaining straightforward and un-intimidating to the average Joe.
Charlie organised Send It Sydney as his answer for a no-frills, community driven event. A Saturday under the lights at SMP made it a surefire hit with the usual suspects, did the quality machinery and drivers turn out!
It was supposed to be straightforward content creation and event coverage for Peter and I, but while Peter had to run after the first couple hours, I drove my girlfriend out for her girls night out and came straight back, gawking at the fly-bys and engrossing myself in the symphony of combustion engines.
In many ways my experience there reminded me of my first trip to watch the F1 in Melbourne. Sure F1 cars were great, but what truly captured my imagination were the GT cars and Carrera Cup entrants that did the support races.
R8 V10 downshifts, a 911 hitting the ripple strips, the dynamism of a big-wang touring car hustling around a sweeper, all of these sensations and memories brought back to life at a grassroots level.
I think it was a great idea to restrict the entrants to road-going builds only, spectators and participants alike could reference their times, lines and builds in more relatable terms.
The next event, 2 Fast 2 Send It has already been locked in by Charlie, and sold out in under 18 hours. Keen to see it all again in September!
